With over 20 years experience in rural and urban food production in the Southern US, Vanessa is currently small-scale farming in Vermont, concentrating on resilient agriculture and developing blueprints for post-carbon food production. As a syndicated columnist she tackles issues of environment, sustainability and health. As a speaker, she is regularly called upon to address issues ranging from biofuels to Harm Reduction and HIV-prevention. Vanessa is an activist-artist, working almost exclusively with discarded materials, and an award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer. She co-founded MayDay Media, a nonprofit production company that developed models for using documentary as a tool for social change.
