On August’s Fire Drill Friday, we’re zooming into California to talk about the urgent topic of public health protections for communities living near oil drilling. We’re joined by Darryl Molina Sarmiento, Executive Director of Communities for a Better Environment, and Kassie Siegel, Director of the Center for Biological Diversity’s Climate Law Institute, to discuss the tour they recently did with California’s First Partner, Jennifer Siebil Newsom, of sites where oil wells and drilling exist right in peoples’ backyards. More than two million California residents currently live within 2,500 feet of oil drilling. This important episode highlights the issue and explains how you can join the campaign calling for Governor Gavin Newsom to speed up formal public health protections ending neighborhood drilling and in the meantime, halt all new oil and gas permits within 2,500 feet of homes, schools, and other sensitive sites.
